Sharing a Meal with Ronald McDonald

It was a dark, frigid night...and members of the National Spanish Honor Society were keeping warm in the Ronald McDonald House, a hotel-like housing space for the families of terminally ill children. That night, about 15 members went out of their way to provide a delicious, home-cooked meal to struggling families.

Being a community of students interested in Hispanic culture, we decided to make enchiladas, arroz con verduras, ensalada de frutas, and ensalada. We all pitched in for ingredients, split up into groups to work on each dish, and began. Almost three hours later, the dishes were set out and the families began trickling in. You could almost see the weight on their shoulders, but as we joked with them and told them about our organization, smiles broke out all around. They enjoyed the meal, and we enjoyed doing something generous for families that needed it.

Taylor, Arnold, and Juliet cook el pollo for las enchiladas.

Elizabeth, Helen, and Annie laugh as they mix up the ensalada.
