Nosotros nos gusta el arte.

Yesterday, the members of SHH decided to take a little trip to the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas. Our goal? To see the works of none other than the illustrious Francisco Jose de Goya.

As an 18th and 19th century artist, Goya played a huge role in chronicling the era of Enlightenment in the Spanish Empire through his prints and oil paintings. Some of his most praised works, depicting the Peninsular War that ensued after Napoleon's invasion of Spain in 1808, were on display. Many of the descriptions below the works were written in Spanish, so SHH members got to apply their knowledge of the Spanish in a real world situation.

By viewing the exhibit, we learned a lot about Spanish history and got to fulfill the cultural aspect of our SHH mission. Way to "pursue a love of Spanish beyond the classroom" SHH!

We also got to see an awesome exhibit about Xu Bing's Book from the Sky (displayed above).

Some of Goya's works focused on the controversy of Spanish bull-fighting.

These are some depictions of the horrific Peninsular War.

A few members taking a break after a long time spent surveying Goya's works.

SHH likes art. We like it a lot. #GoyaMadReason
