WHO WE ARE

Our Mission

Spanish Honor Society is a student-led organization designed to recognize high school achievement in Spanish, as well as assist the spread of knowledge about Hispanic culture within the community. SHS provides students the opportunities to be immersed and engaged in various volunteer, social, and cultural events, ultimately allowing students to pursue and spread their love of Spanish through community service events.

History
Started in 2013, Spanish Honor Society was formed to be, first and foremost, a service organization. It allows students to give back to their community while pursuing their love of Spanish beyond the classroom, the application of the Spanish language and respect for Hispanic culture, as well as rewarding high achievement.

Since its humble beginning, SHS has evolved to include tutoring for Spanish students and social gatherings like Spanish conversation nights and fiestas where students can learn more about the Spanish language, culture, and food!

FAQ

What is Spanish Honor Society?

We are a family of Spanish enthusiasts who come together to volunteer, serve the community, and of course, fiesta!

Why join SHS?

¿Por qué no? Spanish Honor Society provides you with the opportunity to share in rich cultural heritage, serve your community, and beef up your college applications, all at the same time! (Did we mention the fiestas?)

How do I join SHS?

You must be inducted, just like any other honor society! Applications will go out in the second half of the school year. You should have at least 2 years of Spanish (you can apply during your 2nd year.) In the meantime, try to mantain an "A" average in your Spanish class and enroll in the next year of Spanish!

How do I stay in SHS?

In order to mantain your SHS membership, you have to complete 4 group volunteer hours (or 4 tutoring hours) each semester, attend our monthly meetings, and participate in 1 social and 1 cultural activity each semester.

When are meetings?

Meetings are usually the 2nd Wednesday of every month.
